Faith Ministry

Faith Ministry/Ministerio de Fe, Inc. was founded in 1994 in McAllen, Texas by Deantin Guerra to address the needs of the “poorest of the poor” in Mexico while providing ministry and service opportunities for groups in the U.S.

When Deantin began Faith Ministry, he felt the enormity of the extreme poverty he saw in Mexico was more than he could handle. He did not think he could do it. Deantin realized that the ocean of people who were trapped in a failed economy and faced barriers because of lack of education or opportunities was made up of individuals. His load lightened as he focused on lives and souls one at a time, instead of a mass condition.

“When I came here for the first time to do mission work, I was culture-shocked. I couldn’t understand why God had made a river, and on one side of the river, everything was okay, and on the other side, people didn’t have anything. I decided to come back to do mission work in the name of Jesus Christ, one house at a time, one family at a time, one patient at a time at the clinics, one child with the scholarships, and one family and one soul with the church. We do everything in His name and for His glory, one at a time.” – Deantin Guerra, Founder Emeritus

One of the ministry’s first activities was the establishment of a medical clinic to treat the basic needs of colonia residents who were receiving no medical care. Housing was then provided to families who were living in shanties. Facilities were added in Reynosa and Miguel Alemán to host visiting teams, and churches were built to address spiritual needs. Child educational sponsorships were established soon after.

Building Homes

Since 1994, Faith Ministry volunteers have built more than 1,400 houses for those in need in Mexico. More than 550 mission work groups have come to volunteer with our construction program. Now it’s your turn! Bring a team of volunteers and spend a week building a cinderblock house from the ground up for a family in need. While the final result will be a house for a family in need, you will build so much more in the process. By working alongside the family themselves, as well as a team of Mexican volunteers, you will build unforgettable relationships along the way.

The houses we build for the families are about 12 feet by 24 feet and have two windows and at least one door. They are made of cinderblock and cement, which allows the homes to last longer in the Mexican climate than wood, provide better, more sturdy protection in extreme weather conditions, and maintain a more constant temperature. All the materials for the houses are purchased locally in Mexico. The materials are paid for by the team who comes to build the house and cost around $5,500.

Contact David Rodriguez at david@faithministry.org if you want to bring a team of volunteers for a life-changing week in Mexico.
